Hollywood Crush: ‘Catching Fire’: Who Should Play Finnick Odair?

Posted by amanda in Aug 09, 2011 with 5 Comments

Sure, “The Hunger Games” doesn’t hit theaters until March 23, 2012, but it’s never too early to begin thinking about its sequel, “Catching Fire,” is it? Especially since Lionsgate announced just yesterday that the follow-up will set Thanksgiving 2013 ablaze.

The second novel in Suzanne Collins’ bestselling dystopian trilogy, “Catching Fire” chronicles the continuing saga of teen Katniss Everdeen and her contentious relationship with the ever-watchful Capitol. The novel also introduces us to a slew of memorable new characters, including one of my personal favorites, District 4 victor Finnick Odair.

Full disclosure: Long before Liam Hemsworth was cast as Katniss’ hunting buddy Gale Hawthorne, he was my perfect Finnick. Tall, tan, blond and muscular? Yeah, sounds like a certain Aussie I know. Anyway, now that he’s no longer an option for the trident-wielding hunk, it’s time we take a seat on the Hollywood Crush Casting Couch to fish around for a few other worthy contenders. Keep reading after the jump for our picks (including a couple who might be familiar from the Peeta casting process).

EW: Lenny Kravitz, Cinna in Hunger Games

Posted by amanda in May 24, 2011 with No Comments

Lionsgate and director Gary Ross have brought Lenny Kravitz on board The Hunger Games. The actor-musician, who gave a brief but powerful performance in Precious, will play heroine Katniss Everdeen’s Capitol-appointed stylist, Cinna, the kind and graceful artist who conceives of Katniss’ breath-taking Girl on Fire dress. While most people in the Capitol dress in absurdly garish fashion, Cinna’s one nod to flare is gold eyeliner. Katniss quickly comes to believe that her stylist not only possesses great artistic skill, but a good heart as well.

Filming on The Hunger Games, which stars, among many others, Jennifer Lawrence, Woody Harrelson, Josh Hutcherson, and Elizabeth Banks, began last week in North Carolina. EW recently revealed an exclusive first look at Lawrence in costume as trilogy heroine Katniss.

Examiner: Lionsgate casts prep team members for Katniss & Peeta in ’The Hunger Games’

Posted by amanda in May 19, 2011 with No Comments

On Thursday, Lionsgate announced that it had cast two more cast members in The Hunger Games movie — both stylists for the characters of Katniss and Peeta.

Latarsha Rose will play Portia, the stylist assigned to Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) — while Brooke Bundy will play Octavia, a member of the prep team that helps style Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence). It’s still unknown who will play Cinna, Katniss’s assigned stylist, though he remains one of the most-anticipated casting choice still remaining.

The stylists and prep teams help all of the tributes sent to the Hunger Games dress and prepare themselves for public events leading up to the games, themselves. In The Hunger Games, Cinna and Portia team up to create the flaming outfits that first introduce Peeta and Katniss to Hunger Games audiences and spark the “girl on fire” references.

Rose has had a variety of small roles over the last several years, including appearances on TV shows such as Law & Order, CSI: NY, All My Children, and The Cape.

Bundy has appeared in two short films, and also has a role in the small movie Without.

What do you think of the newest cast members to join The Hunger Games movie? Tell us in the comments below.

Also, let us know who you think should play Cinna!

MTV: ‘Hunger Games’ Casts Its Final Tributes: Meet District 2’s Alexander Ludwig And Isabelle Fuhrman

Posted by amanda in May 11, 2011 with No Comments

The Reaping is complete.

All 24 “Hunger Games” tributes have been cast following the news today (via Facebook) that Alexander Ludwig and Isabelle Fuhrman will represent District 2 as Cato and Clove.

“Hunger Games” fans may remember Alexander as one of the handful of actors on the shortlist to portray Katniss love interest and District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark. The 19-year-old is probably best-known for playing Seth in the 2009 Disney flick “Race to Witch Mountain.”

Fellow tribute, 14-year-old Isabelle, already has one conniving creepster to her credit: She played evil Esther in the 2009 film “Orphan.” (Meaning “bloody thirsty teen” is nothing new for her.)

Now, I’ve had few complaints thus far regarding tribute casting since most of them don’t figure prominently into the plot, and I never really gave too much thought as to what they looked like. But here I must voice a bit of concern. Am I the only one who thinks Alexander is a bit slight to play Cato? The menacing career tribute is described by author Suzanne Collins as a hulking brute of a boy, and if recent photos do him justice, Alexander just doesn’t fit that bill for me. And I’m not sure there’s enough time before filming begins for the actor to pull a Taylor Lautner and transform his body into pure steel.

MTV: ‘Hunger Games’ Reaps District 10 Tributes Jeremy Marinas, Dakota Hood

Posted by amanda in May 10, 2011 with No Comments

Well, I called it. Whether my prediction that District 2 would be reaped last stems from potent prognostication powers or an all-seeing eye on par with the Capitol’s, I’ll never tell. But suffice it to say, we have a new pair of tributes to welcome to the “Hunger Games” arena that are NOT from the weapons-manufacturing region.

Jeremy Marinas and Dakota Hood have been cast as the unnamed contenders from District 10, according to the film’s official Facebook page. Like many of his fellow tributes, Jeremy has a stunt background, having appeared in “The Green Hornet,” “The Expendables” and “The Mechanic.” You may also recognize him from acting roles in “The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers” and “Community.” Dakota’s resume is much more sparse, with only one credit: “Scripture Cake: A Southern Cuisine Movie.” Sounds interesting. (On a side note, a Google search of her name produces more images of Dodge automobiles than I care to peruse.) Although according to the YouTubes, she appears to be a budding singer.

So here we are, left with only District 2 tributes Cato and Clove in limbo. Any wild guesses as to whom Lionsgate will tap for these pivotal parts? My ridiculously random votes go to Kellan Lutz for Cato and one-time Katniss hopeful Lyndsy Fonseca for Clove. Again, RIDICULOUSLY RANDOM.

Zap2It: ‘The Hunger Games’: Stanley Tucci is Caesar Flickerman

Posted by amanda in May 09, 2011 with No Comments

Folks, that’s both a headline and a statement, because this casting couldn’t be more perfect.

Stanley Tucci, who has played some amazing diva mentors in the past (See “Devil Wears Prada” and “Burlesque”), has been cast as “The Hunger Games” interviewer Caesar Flickerman.

The very flamboyant Caesar interviews the tributes for the hungry masses that crave any info on them and the games. He’s known to change the color of his skin and hair frequently. Moreover, if Caesar likes a tribute, then he knows how to spin a tribute’s story to gain favor among the people and thus more gifts (Read: Better chance of survival) sent to them during the games.

It was with Caesar that we discover Katniss’ fellow tribute, Peeta, has a gift with the witty banter, which wins over the fans. Also, Katniss confessed/ sort of lied to Caesar that she was in love with Peeta and garnered them much sympathy as only one of them could make it out of the games.

MTV: ‘Hunger Games’ Casting: District 9 Gains Tributes Imanol Yepez-Frias, Annie Thurman

Posted by amanda in May 07, 2011 with No Comments

And then there were two. Only a pair of districts remain tribute-less after another duo of actors were added to the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins dystopian tale.It was announced on “The Hunger Games” official Facebook page that Imanol Yepez-Frias and Annie Thurman will take up the mantle for District 9. Though both characters are unnamed i.e. they wont have much screen time, heroine Katniss Everdeen has a brief run-in with District 9s male.In keeping with tribute casting tradition, both young actors are unknowns, though Annie has a couple acting credits to her name including this years post-apocalyptic thriller “Falls the Shadow.” Sounds like good practice for the Arena!Districts 2 and 10 remain unreaped so to speak, and I have a feeling Lionsgate will save the casting of career tributes Cato and Clove for last, seeing as they play more integral roles than the unnamed teens representing District 10.

Examiner: Woody Harrelson rumored to be in talks to play Haymitch in ’The Hunger Games’

Posted by amanda in May 05, 2011 with No Comments

Lionsgate is keeping mum about the casting of Haymitch in The Hunger Games movie, easily the most anticipated casting choice left go — but rumors online say Woody Harrelson may now be in the running.

Previously, John C. Reilly was named a frontrunner for the part of Haymitch, but now it looks like he’s no longer in the running. (Most likely, this is due to Reilly choosing a different project). Earlier reports said that Harrelson, along with Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz, were all likely to be offered roles in The Hunger Games.

Initially, Harrelson was being linked to the role of Seneca Crane — but now, E! Online reports that Harrelson may now be in talks to play Haymitch.

Of course, much could still change in the negotiations process — but Harrelson could easily embrace the qualities of Haymitch, based on his past body of work.

Examiner: Lionsgate adds District 7 tributes to ’The Hunger Games’ movie cast

Posted by amanda in May 03, 2011 with No Comments

Lionsgate has revealed two more tributes for The Hunger Games movie cast.

Joining the growing number of cast members today are Sam Ly and Leigha Hancock as the tributes from District 7.

Both are newcomers to Hollywood, as are many of the other tributes — though several also have experience in stunt work.

Only four more districts remain to be cast, including Cato and Clove from District 2, two of the more notable tributes in The Hunger Games. Several adult characters also have yet to be announced, most notably Haymitch, Cinna, and President Snow.
