When she first read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Hollywood producer Nina Jacobson says she was “obsessed with the book and with the idea that I had to produce the movie.”
That obsession became a reality, and Jacobson’s company Color Force is now the team behind Lionsgate’s upcoming adaptation of The Hunger Games.
Jacobson tells Forbes magazine that she was one of several producers seeking the rights to The Hunger Games. But something about Jacobson’s passion convinced author Collins to hand over the film rights to her.
“She felt extraordinarily passionate about the material,” Collins said. “She had the same fears that I did about the ways it could be misused.”
Now, Jacobson has teamed up with Lionsgate to produce The Hunger Games movie, due out in theaters on March 23, 2012 — less than a year from now. Filmmakers have already cast the film’s three main leads, and are scouting filming locations to begin shooting in the next few months.
